WMC Middle East Title 70kg WAR ON THE SHORE - DUBAI
| East Meets East: Thailand VS Middle East in Dubai |
It will be a case of the Far East taking on the
Middle East later this month when a Thai national team travels to Dubai to take on a Middle East team at muaythai. The Thailand vs Middle East event – the fifth instalment of the
Thailand vs Challenger (TVC) 2010 Series – will be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Dubai on November 25.Thailand vs Middle East will be a co-promotion with Vladimir Burdun – the number one local promoter and founder of the War on the Shore events. Having produced two very successful War on the Shore events, Vladimir took a two-year break from the business. “It’s great to be back,” he told us, “and I’m also very happy to be working with Elite Boxing and all the support they are able to provide.” The impressive fightcard will feature three fights as part of the Thailand vs Middle East event and one additional Elite Boxing Superfight. Representing the Middle East team will be Mostafa Abdolahi and Vahid Roshani of Iran as well as Ahmed Saadi of Tunisia. Their opponents in the Thai TVC team will be Samranchai 96 Penung, Yodvianu Sor Kittichai and Jaw Maw Phumphanmuang respectively. While the three TVC fights are highly anticipated and certain to attract a great deal of national as well as regional pride, there is an extra special interest in the EB Superfight with up-and-coming TVC favourite Antoine Siangboxing will be doing battle with Zidov Akuma of Switzerland. Antoine is no stranger to TVC fans, having taken part in the TVC Grand Opening at the Royal Paragon Hall in January and the TVC at the Queen’s Cup event in August. Having narrowly lost both those fights on points, Antoine is due the win that his undoubted talent and determination merit. Many muaythai fans will also recognise Zidov from the Contender Asia reality TV show. Although finishing as the 6th highest ranking muaythai fighter in the hugely popular Contender Asia 2008 Series, Zidov is still relatively unknown in Thailand. Taking on Antoine is an opportunity for him to make a name for himself in Thailand and Asia, while for Antoine – a Frenchman who was raised in Thailand – it is a rare chance to fight against a non-Thai opponent. Thailand vs Middle East will be the first TVC event held in Dubai, but it is unlikely to be the last. Negotiations are currently under way to hold the entire TVC 2011 Series with the same venue partner, while there is also interest from other cities in the region, most notably Doha. With the possibility of future TVC productions in the region, the event on November 25 will promote cross cultural relations by bringing Thailand and the Middle East together in more ways than one. Apart from the muaythai, Thailand vs Middle East is set to take place at the luxurious Dusit Thani Dubai – a leading Thai luxury hotel brand whose Dubai branch is owned by a local group headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “It is great to be having a TVC event in the fantastic city of Dubai and an honour to be holding it in a hotel owned by Sheikh Mohammed,” explained Elite Boxing co-founder Seth Fishman. “Of course, it is also very important for us to be holding Thailand vs Middle East at a Thai hotel, so what could be better than to have it at such a famous Thai hotel as the Dusit Thani? “The venue itself is perfect,” continued Fishman. “The event will take place on the rooftop of the Dusit Thani with the Bhurj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world – as a backdrop.” Everything is set for a great evening and Thailand vs Middle East could be the beginning of a long relationship between the TVC Series and Dubai. |

| THAILAND VS CHALLENGER AT THE QUEEN'S CUP |
Muaythai’s annual Queen’s Cup broke new ground at
Sanam Luang last Thursday with the inclusion of male fights as part of Elite Boxing’s Thailand vs Challenger (TVC) Series. The Queen’s Cup has been held on August 12 every year since 1996 to honour Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand’s birthday. Traditionally featuring an all-female fightcard, it is widely considered the main event in the international muaythai calendar for female fighters. Following an agreement between the event’s organisers One Songchai Promotions and long time ally Elite Boxing, the Queen’s Cup has been expanded this year to include four TVC super fights in the evening’s entertainment. A large crowd turned out to show their love for their Queen and even the rain couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm. Following an impressive candle ceremony at 7:19pm, it was time for the action to begin. Despite the inclusion of male fights, it was still a case of ladies first with the eight international female fights of the Queen’s Cup broadcast live on True Visions. With the female fights completed, it was time for the Queen’s Cup to enter new territory as local celebrity Sonia Couling stepped into the ring to announce the start of the latest Thailand vs Challenger installment. The first TVC fight of the night featured Alexander Tobias of Sweden challenging Thailand’s Ole Tor Sirachai in what was a late replacement fight due to regular TVC fighter Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn having to pull out after being involved in a minor motorcycle accident. While the Swede made a brave effort, the superior skill of the Thai fighter was always evident and it was no surprise that the fight ended with a second round KO win for Ole Tor Sirachai. The second challenging nation was Germany with Valdet Gashi taking on Petsanguan of Thailand. Despite a height and reach disadvantage, the German fought a very tactical fight and survived the five rounds before losing on points. The third TVC fight was undoubtedly the fight of the night. Defending Thailand’s national pride, Khunlar Chokepreecha was up against the exciting talent of Mathias Pattaya Kombat, an upcoming Pattaya-based fighter from Italy. The action-packed fight went the full five rounds, but it was the Italian who was celebrating a points victory at the end. Mathias is still relatively new to the local muaythai scene, but he is certainly one to watch out for. The final TVC fight was also the WMC sanctioned Queen’s Cup title fight featuring the current number one Thai fighter, Saiyok Pumphanmuang, up against Antoine Siangboxing, a French fighter who has grown up in Thailand. There had been some doubts about whether the young French fighter would be out of his depth against the current Lumpini champion but he proved once again that he is a tough competitor. “I was a little unsure about putting Antoine up against Saiyok,” said Elite Boxing’s managing director Toli Makris. “I was confident that he was brave enough, but I knew he was going up against one of the very best.” Antoine, who lost on points against another Thai muaythai legend Nopparat Kiatamtorn during the TVC Grand Opening in January, didn’t let anyone down with another big-hearted effort. Although he once more lost on points, he went to-to-toe with Saiyok for five exciting rounds and further enhanced his growing reputation. There is no doubting that Antoine has an exciting future ahead of him in the world of muaythai. With the TVC Series televised in 180 countries, it might just be the platform Antoine needs to show the world what an exciting young talent he is. More details can be found at http://gallery.elite-boxing.com |
August 12th is a very important day in the Thai calendar as it marks the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, who this year will be 78 years young.
Sanam Luang will be the venue for the Queen’s Birthday, organized by OneSongchai, Thailand’s super promoter, Elite Boxing, and sanctioned by the World Muaythai Council, under directive of the Thai government.

The event will be held in 3 parts, certainly commencing with the important candle ceremony for Her Majesty and over 100,000 spectators are expected. Following this will be all muay ying girl fights with many international fights. The last part will be the Thailand vs Challenger, with a Thai team led by superstars as Saiyok Noi and Nonsai, taking on a world team led by French superstar Antuan Siangboxing. The fights will be televised on 2 TV stations – MB Channel and ESPN.
